Give it a read and jump into the dark world of Night of the Dead, now featured in the StarCraft II Arcade. Game designer Daren “Ability” Yoong talked us through the development of his team’s game.

You’ll find a variety of weapons and items that will augment your ability to deal with the droves of different enemies in this game. For instance, the Medic class can focus on improving his healing abilities or learn new offensive abilities, while the Assault class can bolster hard-hitting abilities or become more durable to tank damage for his team. Initially, players choose from three classes, but you can unlock nine others as you spend more time with the game.Įach class has two skill trees that you can focus on as you level up in the game. It’s a team-based survival game where up to eight players unravel the story behind the Apollo mining colony base and the horrific events that caused it to turn into a zombie-infested nightmare. One wonders if the makers of Iron Chef, BeJeweled, or Left 4 Dead will pull any videos of these mods off of YouTube, but that seems unlikely.Unlike some games we’ve featured in our weekly spotlights, Night of the Dead has a long history in the StarCraft II Arcade as well as a strong following. You can find more information about the game modes and how to leave your impressions on them here. Remember, these game modes are in their beta, so Blizzard would appreciate feedback. You can find all of these modes under the multiplayer tab in the custom games window. There is even a "survival" mode where endless night pits players against wave after wave of enemies. Build your defenses during the day, survive the infected onslaught at night. "Left 2 Die" is a two player co-op mode that has a day/night cycle. It can be played competitively or co-operatively. This energy acts as a resource for building units. "StarJeweled" features a StarCraft/ Bejeweled hybrid where gamers match jewels to gain energy.

These dishes are worth points, and whoever has the highest score at the end of three rounds wins. "Auir Chef" is an eight man free-for-all that tasks players with gathering ingredients in order to make special dishes. While none of these may be as noteworthy as the World of StarCraft Land of StarArt mod that appeared last week, two out of three support co-op play, and that ain't half bad. Names like "Auir Chef", "StarJeweled", and "Left 2 Die" hint at what gamers can expect. These new modes draw inspiration from some unlikely sources.

Blizzard has some new game modes for StarCraft 2 available for beta-testing over at.
